Every child is Angellyh

On Friday, April 8th, 2022, Angellyh Yambo, a 16-year-old honor student was fatally shot on her way home from school. At the time she was just three blocks from University Prep Charter High School located in the Melrose section of The Bronx.

We established the Angellyh Yambo Foundation with the goal to create a safe haven for children where they can learn, grow, and develop as individuals. Young leaders and entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to grow their skills in these developing programs that empower them to take control of their future. We hope to inspire children at an early age with real-life examples of success outside of the classroom.

Angellyh’s High School Application Essay

“I would describe myself as a creative and adventurous student. I am always excited to learn about new topics and I enjoy projects that involve crafty tasks. My preferred way to learn is visually. I usually participate in my classes but the pandemic has made that harder for me. As a shy student, I prefer to work independently, but I am open to work in groups and push myself beyond my discomfort. Reflecting on my education from 2nd grade until now, I believe I am a strong student academically. My favorite subject this year has been English Language Arts. What interests me about attending a rigorous early college high school is the chance to challenge myself in different aspects. Attending an early college high school means that I will get prepared for the years that come after high school, including college and beyond. I know that I will have more responsibilities but more freedom as well, which excites me. A senior year experience is appealing because I will be able to take college classes and get ready for college mentally and academically. I think it would help me mature so that when I attend college it will be familiar and easier to adapt to the expectations.” Angellyh Yambo
